Passenger - All the little lights

Wednesday 27th February 2013 | Sigrid

If the name Mike Rosenberg doesn’t ring a bell, Passenger will. With his number-one hit ‘Let her go’ this British singer-songwriter blew everybody’s mind away.  Chart topper Ed Sheeran admitted that he was touched by Passengers fifth album ‘All The Little Lights’  and got Passenger to tour with him throughout Europe.

Rosenberg has yet build quite a repertoire since his debut album ‘Wicked Man’s Rest’ was released five years ago. His dreaming and breakable songs don’t just remind us at Ed Sheeran, but also at Ben Howard and Jonathan Jeremiah. The combination of folk, indie pop and especially a unique voice and great lyrics is what describes him as a musician.

This album contains not only love outbursts but also life stories and jokes. With a song like ‘I Hate’ the man shows a great sense of humour.  The use of strings in ‘Things That Stop You Dreaming’, as well as the banjos and horns in ‘Staring at the Stars’ give the album a wider range of musical depth. Additionally, the realist-tinged ballad ‘Let Her Go’ and the swinging, wistfully romantic ‘Patient Love’ represent particularly bright spots on this album.

At the moment he's touring throughout Europe where he's become very famous in a very short time. He doesn't travel alone though, one of his best friends and genius musician Stu Larsen opens a lot of his gigs. Larsen is an Australian singer-songwriter who also plays accoustic indie music. He just released his EP 'Ryeford' which is insanely beautyful. Indie people, check it out!
