Serial remixer Cyril Hahn heads to the UK

Sunday 24th February 2013 | Annalisa

Beyonce Knowles has been causing an awful lot of fuss lately. The admittance of miming at Barack Obama’s inauguration, Destiny’s Child’s Super Bowl performance and then the fan outrage over tickets for her UK tour selling out in twelve minutes. But it was a remix of the Beyonce-led, Destiny’s Child track Say My Name that saw Swiss producer Cyril Hahn gain the attention of those in the music industry.

Hahn’s slow-tempo rework of the hit single comprises of repetitive warped cries of the chorus and received widespread support, most notably from Radio 1′s Annie Mac, accumulating over a million plays on YouTube in the process.

Based in Vancouver, Canada, Hahn is currently studying a degree in Art History and divides his time between education and remixing the likes of Mariah Carey, Jessie Ware and Beyonce’s younger sibling Solange in the modest setting of his own home.

Relatively new to the electronic music scene, the Swiss-born producer was writing folk songs and trying his hand at playing the banjo in 2009 before deciding a change was needed early last year.

With remixes as the only source of Hahn’s sound, he is expected to release some original work later this year on PMR Records, the label which recently snapped him up and the home to Ware, Disclosure and Julio Bashmore.

Next month will see the DJ return to his roots as he embarks on his European tour, playing his first show in Denmark before visiting Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin, London and Brighton’s Audio to cap off his UK shows.

Although it’s unlikely Hahn’s music will gather as much attention as the antics of Beyonce and her band’s Billboard chart-topping single, one thing is for sure – people are already saying his name.
