Pure Love’s long awaited debut album “Anthems” finally made it on to our shelves earlier this month after being pushed back for release twice by their record company.
Having previously listened to the already released tracks “Bury My Bones” and “Handsome Devil’s Club”, it sounded as though this record would have a kind of “pop” vibe about it, with the catchy choruses of both these two songs. However this isn’t the case at all. The opening song to the record “She” sees Frank Carter singing about love and the loss that follows, then in “Bury My Bones” the first line of the song is “I’m so sick of singing about hate/it’s never going to make a change” and he’s probably got a point with that one. Nonetheless, not all of the tracks on the record are about everything that is love, parts of the record can come across as dark and depressing, but this still comes as a welcome change from both Carter and Jim Carroll’s previous hardcore punk days.
This album is a great listen, I loved it, and they’re amazing live! Get it now!
