With Radiohead on a nine month recording hiatus, a fatal incident from one of their Toronto gigs in support of King of Limbs and Thom Yorke launching his new side project Atoms for Peace, Radiohead fans probably aren’t expecting this news. But the band is expected to start working on a new album later this year. Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood reveals to BBC 6 Music: "We're taking some time out whilst people are doing some other stuff, doing their own things, and the plan is to get back together again at the end of the summer."
This will be the English rock band’s ninth studio album and with such a diverse discography, fans never know what to expect from this experimental group. After all, we are talking about the band that made us all feel okay to be ‘creeps’ from their debut album Pablo Honey (1992), gave us the opportunity to pay whatever we want for In Rainbows (2007) and left most of us slightly confused by Yorke’s dancing for The King of Limbs’ ‘Lotus Flower’ video (2011).
But in true cult-like Radiohead fan-based fashion, we’re all eagerly awaiting what introspective lyrics Yorke has in store for us next. And with a live show -that I know from experience to be packed with Yorke’s contagiously positive energy- we’re keeping fingers crossed for another world tour next year.
