Indie seduction: Minus the Bear

With a name like Minus the Bear, you’re probably wondering ‘What rubbish indie band is this?’ But the five piece group from Washington have something special that keeps their cult fan base growing.
In the past 12 years, Minus the Bear have put out five studio albums, each with a slightly different indie charm than the other. Earlier tunes off Highly Refine Pirates and Menos el Oso tell nostalgic stories about drinking, travelling and just having a good time.
Their latest release Infinity Overhead has a darker edge to it but still keeps Minus the Bear’s trademark flirtatious lyrics. The band is known for lyrics like “And when my body moved she made sound. And when she moved down she made my back arch” off their track ‘Summer Angel’. And the lack of subtlety seems to be working so far.
Minus the Bear recently announced a handful of European dates with only one gig in London. So if you want your chance to be seduced by frontman Jake Snider’s lyrics or if you just want to hear some good indie, go see them on 2nd May at Garage.
