Women in Metal- A Triumph for Feminism?

Sister Sin will be playing at the Underworld in Camden this March 16th which has inspired a curiosity as to the reception of females in rock music. Sister Sin are a female fronted four piece with a style reminiscent of Guns 'N Roses, L.A. Guns, and Hanoi Rocks, formed in 2002 in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is rare still to see loud screaming females behind a heavy metal band. We have The Donna's, Evanescence, the Hellish Arch Enemy, but little others come to mind as readily as the eclectic testosterone mix of hairy males gracing the metal scene.
Is this something we need to see more of? Why is it that we associate females with wincing mildness and insipid whining vocals? Or perhaps we worship the more masculine gravel of a Patti Smith, a Norah Jones, a classic feminist. Check out their video 'Outrage', below. Are they a spirit of the new age, or just another Paramore? You decide.
