Pop group Girls Aloud announces 10th anniversary reunion with a comeback single ‘Something New’.
Girls Aloud are the most successful girl group of the 21st Century, says the Official Chart Company. Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding formed a band on reality show Pop Stars: The Rivals in 2002. They were on cloud nine between 2002 and 2009 with five top 10 albums, Brit award for best single, and a Guinness World Record for most successful reality show band.
Girls Aloud played their final gig at Wembley Stadium on 18 September, 2009. The band's return was first hinted at last week, when a 10-day countdown clock appeared on their official website. Band member Cheryl Cole said: "We're really excited. It feels like nothing has changed."
It was thought that band’s come back single ‘Something New’ would be released on Friday, but it was hastily unveiled on Tuesday after it leaked online.
This three-minute dance track feels like a high-speed dash through Girls Aloud's greatest hits, incorporating goofy rapped verses, a soaring chorus and the cheerleader chant "we're the leaders of the pack". The song was written by the band’s longtime collaborators Xenomania.
The band’s first performance will be on 16 November, as part of Children in Need. Girls Aloud will also perform on the BBC One show later this year.
Later, the band will release a greatest hits album, Ten, on 26 November, which includes handful of new tracks. This release will be followed by a 12-date arena tour in 2013. If you pre-order the band's new album, Ten, this weekend, you will be given the chance to buy concert tickets before they go on sale to the public.
