Rihanna offered £5 million to flick switch

Rihanna is estimated to have been offered in the region of £5 million for essentially turning up in London and flicking on a light switch
Christmas lights events up and down the country are always an overblown celebrity-drenched farce. But none more so than this year at Westfields shopping centre in Stratford, east London, where the album-churning machine has been offered the job of turning on the lights.
Apparently there’s some money left over from the Olympics budget and presumably the organisers thought “what better way to ‘celebrate’ the end of 2012 than by forking out a ridiculous sum of money for a famous person to flick a switch?” Besides, anything else you buy for that much would probably be considered a waste.
20,000 people are expected to flood the Olympic park for one final bow before the whole place is left to ruin. There was talk of the Spice Girls making an appearance but that was quickly quashed in favour of the younger, leaner, generally more popular option that would attract a decent-sized crowd.
Whether this £5 million could be put to better use is not of concern to the organisers who obviously take previous global sporting events such as the Athens Olympics as an example that “it’s all down hill from here.”
Rihanna is expected to perform a collection of her many thousands of chart hits as well as pushing the big button. And she’ll probably have another couple albums to plug around the same time, so it’ll fit nicely into her schedule of complete world chart domination.
