Merge into the experimental sound of Sonnymoon

Indie | Monday 3rd September 2012 | Osh

Boston-based electro pop duo Dane Orr (instruments) and Anna Wise (vocals) also known as Sonnymoon, are surprising the music critics with their otherworldly sound. Newspaper The Guardian described their music as “woozy, magical, mysterious, hypnotic and quixotic”. Adding: “It is liquid and loose, unconventional and unorthodox. It jerks and juts out at ridiculous angles, but it can also be smooth and easy on the ear”. Sonnymoon´s self-titled long player released last May, mixes electronica with R&B, jazz, pop and avant garde sounds in an innovating way. Orr and Wise met at Berkley College of Music where he was studding saxophone and she was studding singing. In the album, released by the label Plug Research (responsible for Flying Lotus's debut album, plus releases from Dntel, Daedalus, John Tejada) we can find songs as Wild Rumpus, which encourages us to contact our animal side, or Nothing Thought which uses hip-hop techniques. The group achieves these new sounds merging a strong melody with loose grooves and sleek textures. The band is currently touring the States and will perform until next month in Fresno, LA, Austin and Atlanta.
