Matthew was the son Winston McAnuff aka Electric Dread, a famous singer and composer of reggae and dub music

Matthews’s brother Rashaun 'Kush' McANuff, performer of the Uprising Band, informed media about the incident: "From what I understand, it was about four or five of them who accused him of being a cop and started chopping him. He ran and collapsed near the house he rented," said Kush. "By the time he was discovered, he had already bled to death."

The murder took place on Wednesday 22d around 6:00 am in Paradise, St James. According to the police report, McAnuff was having a fight with another man when suddenly became physical and the man was injured. A group of residents then allegedly attacked McAnuff and stabbed him several times. Later on, the police came and both men were taken to hospital where McAnuff was pronounced dead.

Matthew McAnuff was a 25 year old up-coming artist who, as his father in his early years, was an emerging reggae star in Europe, especially in France, where his single Be Careful was making its way up in charts. He was about to sign with French record label Makasound and was engaged with the project Inna De Yard All Stars, with artists such as Earl Chinna Smith, Kiddus I, Derajah and Cedric Myton. He was also preparing to release another single, If You Want War.
