One of the North’s biggest hip hop nights takes a trip down South this August to Proud Camden in North London. DJs Oscar Wildstyle and Wiggie Smalls have built up this club night’s reputation over the past three years in Manchester and Liverpool to make it one of the most covetable events playing classic hip hop, old school and RnB.
They’ve collaborated with the likes of Wu Tang Clan, De La Soul, Kelis & Big Boi and you can expect to hear old and new greats like Notorious BIG, Snoop Dogg, MIA, Ludacris, Kanye, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Dr Dre, Outkast, Beastie Boys, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Azealia Banks, Jay-Z, Run DMC, Destiny's Child & loads, loads more.
With songs perfectly blending into each other and a few cheeky remixes thrown in, the playlist is guaranteed to get you hyped. But in case you want a sample of what’s to come, their mixtapes are available to hear via Soundcloud.
Their events up North frequently sell-out but lucky for us Londoners the launch party is free entry all night and drinks are only £2 with a valid NUS card. Join the event on Facebook and, as said by the DJs themselves, “Tell a friend to tell a friend, we will be keeping it 50 shades of cray until the early hours”. Cos if you’ve got no chance of resurrecting Biggie and catching him at some underground hip hop rave in 1990s East Coast, this must be the next best thing right? Exactly.
