Based in Kinsale, Ireland, is a band whose sound is reggae fused with rock and funk. Karma Parking is certainly different and with influences from reggae, blues and funk including The Mighty Boosh, Jimmy Cliff and absinthe amongst many, Julien, Ed, Jono and Damien create a special sound with each track they play. We caught up with them to gain insight into their journey so far...
How long have you been on the music scene for?
We have only been hitting big festivals in the last two years but have been gigging for the past 10 years at least.
Where does the name Karma Parking come from? Why did you choose it?
Originally it was Parking but it got changed to Karma Parking when we missed out on the domain name. And also, if you know karma then you sure want to park it somewhere good!
Who have you worked with and how have they influenced you?
The American producer Jim Salamone worked on our last album and gave us direction in terms of song arrangement and sound.
And who would you like to work with in the future?
Easy Star All Stars would be a start.
So have you performed at any events and are there any coming up this year?
We performed at Vantastival at Bellurgan Park this past bank holiday.
And how would you describe your music in three words...
Fun, energetic and solid.
The main message you are trying to send through your music is...
Get up and dance!
What does your music mean to you?
Freedom
Your favourite place to have performed to date is...
Our regular gig in The Crane Lane is one of the good ones.
The defining moment in your career so far...
Supporting Easy Star All Stars.
So are there any releases due soon? If so, when can we expect to hear it?
New tunes are currently in the works and hopefully some kind of release will come in the next two months.
What are your plans for your music within the next three years?
More festivals but, we feel our music is more suited for the mainland and a tour of Europe would be a big ask but it’s something we are aiming for. So... if any promoters out there are looking for a positive, energetic and fun band, give us a call!
