Jay-Z Supports Gay Marriage Campaign!

RnB/Hip Hop | Wednesday 16th May 2012 | Osh

Brooklyn-born superstar rapper Jay-Z has expressed his support for gay marriage rights in the U.S.A. following Obama’s recent campaigning.

The forty-two year old father of one, is married to R&B songstress Beyoncé, is endorsing marriage for gay couples after just celebrating his fourth anniversary. He believes there should be no discrimination against homosexuality and marriage should be for all. If the U.S. campaign is successfully completed, this is good news for the U.K. to follow suit.

Jay-Z voiced his support on Monday at a Budweiser music festival press conference in Philadelphia; "I have always thought of it as something that is still holding the country back." he said. “"What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That's their business. It is no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination, plain and simple."

And Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) is not alone. He is joined by a whole host of other celebrities and politicians who are getting their views heard and using their fame for social change. Reality star and socialite Kim Kardashian may not be famous for much, but expressed her delight towards the campaign; "We've never had a President so supportive of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and today I am proud to be an American!", she blogged last Wednesday. “No more living in the past!”

Comedienne and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who is openly gay stated, “…one action changes everything… Mr President, to you, I say, thank you, very, very much."

Jay-Z has also expressed his uninterest in politics overall, but believes that his involvement and declared opinion and endorsement is the right thing to do for America and the future. This is despite a series of homophobic based disses in his earlier career.

From the 18th of May, Jay-Z will embark upon a five night stint at London’s O2 Arena; sharing the headlining spot with Kanye West. As well as the shows in London, the two Hip-Hop heavyweights will also appear at Manchester’s Evening News Arena on the 11th and the 12th of June, two gigs at Birmingham’s LG Arena on the 13th and the 22nd of June. The UK legs of their ‘Watch the Throne’ tour will finish at Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield on the 21st of June.
