Naughty by Nature: Anthems Inc.

‘’Mean like Idi Amin,’’ a line from track 13, Flags, well describes the better parts of this new album from these seasoned Hip Hop veterans. A combination of new material and re-recordings of old classics, the album’s generally lively tempo is reminiscent of the era that produced anthems such as OPP, which, predictably, is one of the songs they’ve selected for re-production. Although some of the new tracks on the album lack the slickness of flow that many Naughty by Nature fans might hope for, sacrificing this in favor of more obtrusive—and to my mind over-produced—chorus lines, this is on the whole an enjoyable Hip Hop album, definitely worth casting your ear over for the excellent re-recordings if nothing else.
