Event Review: Circus Records at Ministry of Sound

Tuesday 16th December 2014 | Nick

As the night began to heat up, Doctor P took to the decks, mixing familiar popular songs with face melting dubstep. The music was accompanied by spectacular lighting effects. Indeed all the lights and lasers are a very big part of a night out for seasoned ravers. The box was packed, making it almost impossible to hold on to a drink. This only added to the atmosphere, along with the acts playing classic dubstep tunes that took you back to the very beginnings of Circus Records. Doctor P's classic song 'Sweet Shop' left a lasting impression as he made way for the 'big boss' himself. (That's for the Circus fans out there!)

Flux Pavilion taking control in the early hours of the morning provided the ravers with an amazing set. Having tweeted prior to the show about his set would include a LOT of new material, given that his new album was just about completed, the dubstep guru shocked everyone with a set featuring early Circus Records to all but some of his most famous songs, such as the remix of 'Cracks', 'Gold Dust', 'Blue Skies', 'I Cant Stop' to name but a few. It was a timeline of Circus Record's release history. With new exclusive material, restarting of songs, fake drops and exaggerated buildups, Flux made great use of his outstanding mixing abilities and left the crowd roaring for more until 4am.

Unfortunately, every set has to come to an end, and what better way to carry on than seeing a special B2B set played from FuntCase and Cookie Monsta. We had a chat with FuntCase earlier in the night in a quieter area as he hovered around giving us a very obvious message of "don't miss my set, sh*ts going down"! Having produced drum and bass for the past six years, people all over the globe recognise FuntCase as one of the filthiest dubstep artists in the game. With his excruciatingly loud dubstep and immense basslines, all fall victim to the angry claws of FuntCase.

FuntCase gave a whole new meaning to the word atmosphere, dancing harder and more energetically than most of the people there. This video gives an example of exactly what I mean. It also happens to be a clip from a back to back set with Cookie Monsta - even more fitting.

Cookie Monsta followed this ecstatic, energy fueled set as he and FuntCase played out for all those still awake from 4am onwards. This was a very similar night to when Fire in Vauxhall hosted Kill the Noise; a huge hype over the artists, very loud dubstep, brand new unheard material and the immediate nostalgia after walking out the doors!

If Circus Records do another London show we would highly advise not missing it. Circus Records, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, FuntCase and Cookie Monsta outdid our expectations, so let them do the same for you.
