Album Review: "Cadillactica" - Big K.R.I.T.

Ever since the self-produced mixtape Return of 4eva was released to critical acclaim back in 2011, Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. (King Remembered In Time) has been on a rise to stardom, releasing his first official studio album in 2012 and now his second this November with Cadillactica.
Like the aforementioned Return of 4eva, this second official release has gone to to receive masses of acclaim and it’s all worthy. The 28 year old raps with an intensity, but also provides an emotional side displaying a soulful calmness best represented in ‘Mo Better Cool’, backed with a smooth RnB attitude.
It’s not only the soul of K.R.I.T.’s words present that makes Cadillactica work so well, but it’s the personality he’s created with it. It’s distinctive as anything you’ll hear this year, the rapper switching between the quick-witted brilliance of the album’s titular piece to the memorable relaxation we hear on ‘Angels’.
Features fortunately don’t overwhelm the majority of K.R.I.T.’s work here, but the ones chosen all work magnificently in providing the calmness he’s working towards throughout with Wiz Khalifa, A$AP FERG and the always reliable Lupe Fiasco turning up to give a helping hand. K.R.I.T.’s work here is simply stunning and the only comparisons that can be noted are with the legendary OutKast and the man of the moment Frank Ocean.
It's undisputely the chillest album of 2014.
