Die Antwoord's "Ugly Boy" Music Video

Bursting onto the scene with the comically strange Enter the Ninja video which went viral five years ago, it’s no surprise to see the South African rap rave duo still working their niche of challenging obvious genre conventions through what the two members describe as political satire. It’s arguably a love it or hate it situation with Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, and that’s what’s made them so effective and successful in their acclaim. Now on their third LP and the duo haven’t exactly changed their ways and fortunately the weirdness still remains, something which exists throughout all their music video releases from Donker Mag.
In the ‘Cookie Thumper’ video we saw Yo-Landi dancing around with women wearing bag-heads amidst other elements of surrealism which can be described as hallucinogenic and ‘Pitbull Terrier’ showed us Ninja dressed as the titular canine, so now what do we get with the album’s third single ‘Ugly Boy’?
First off, the idea of dream-like imagery still exists, but the fascinating duo become even more interesting with what they’re doing here. Not just through sequences of a dancing clown or blood dripping down Yo-Landi’s eyes, but rather how they’ve managed to secure comedian Jack Black, model Cara Delevingne and metal musician Marilyn Manson to feature in the year’s most bizarre video.
