For those with their ears to the ground, the underground that is, of UK hip-hop culture will be fully aware that Grime culture has been steadily bubbling under the surface. However a new wave of MCs are set to potentially bring a taste of that culture to the full front of UK music.
An MC with the potential to sphere head this resurgence is Lil Simz, a young London MC present on the BBC 1xtra airwaves & a host of videos on YouTube. Some of our readers might already be familiar with her music and ever growing presence online. Well that presence is about to take new leaps after Life + Times premiered her latest mixtape ‘Blank canvas’. The mixtape is indicative of the growing culture of UK artists taking an interest in all aspects of the art form of hip-hop culture from video to art work and more. Listening to the mixtape you get the impression of a well thought out concept album executed beautifully. Lil Simz is only in her infancy and has a lot more room to grow, so keep an eye out as she and the emerging UK artists become increasingly present in the full flow of our cultural zeitgeist.
