Kendrick Lamar's 'Humble' is Putting Other Rappers In Their Place!

RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 3rd April 2017 | Idrees

After shaking up the Hip Hop industry with the release of 'The Heart Pt 4', Kendrick has gone and done it again!

With the release of his new song and music video 'Humble', Kendrick continues to spark discussion amongst hip hop fans.

'Humble' can almost be viewed as two songs in one, with the first verse coming across as more of a parodical view of hip hop rappers today. Whereas the second verse is a more real, down to earth version of Kendrick himself.

With lyrics like:

“Girl, I can buy yo' ass the world with my paystub”

“If I quit your BM, I still ride Mercedes, funk”

It’s quite clear that Kendrick is demonstrating a more arrogant and self-centred approach to his sound.

In the music video, we even see Kendrick laying on money at one point whilst rapping. Something we see regularly in mainstream hip hop today.

This is then followed by the chorus, perhaps telling himself to “be humble”:

“(Hol’ up, bitch) sit down
(Hol’
up lil' bitch, hol’ up lil' bitch) be humble”

The second verse transitions us to a Kendrick that we are more familiar with, as he comments on society’s obsession of “faking” up, whether by actions or even appearance.

“Get the fuck off my dick, that ain't right
I make a play fuckin' up your whole life
I'm so fuckin' sick and tired of the Photoshop
Show me somethin' natural like afro on Richard Pryor
Show me somethin' natural like ass with some stretch marks”

As well as this, Kendrick plays off what we heard in 'The Heart Pt 4', with him claiming that he’s the best rapper in the world, and quite frankly no one can really say anything otherwise.

We even get some speculations that Kendrick was throwing shots at Big Sean, similar to what was suggested in the last song.

Example’s being Kendrick emulating Sean’s ad-lips “Hol Up” in the chorus. Perhaps telling Sean to be humble?

Who knows? One thing is for sure though his upcoming album is going to provide us with even more fyah!
