Smerz are serving up banging Scandinavian beats
Copenhagen-based Norwegian producer duo Henriette and Catharina, aka Smerz, serve up their new single ‘Because’.
The pair expertly fuse heavy production with honey-sweet vocals, creating that is complex, refreshing and minimalist all at once. Their latest drop 'Because’ features a club-ready combination of deep, heady bass and slick electronics, complemented by hypnotic layers of distorted vocals. Both captivating and melodic, the track exemplifies their dark and abstract style.
Smerz started gaining attention over the summer thanks to a bewitching series of shows across the Scandinavian festival scene, including Roskilde, Insomnia, Way Out West and Øyafestivalen. Clearly already building a reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the live arena, Noisey have even likened their performances to a "commune with the digital gods of electronic music in front of a live audience like a 21st century coven wearing headphones". The pair continue this momentum with a series of shows in early 2016; Eurosonic in January and Oslo's By:Larm in March are two standout dates.
Armed with a striking ability to meld feminine melodies with hard-hitting production, along with a burgeoning reputation on the live circuit, Smerz are clearly a duo on the ascent.
