Meet afrobeats sensation Maleek Berry

Maleek Shoyebi known as Maleek Berry, started his career as a record producer in 2012, working with prominent afrobeats artists such as Wizkid, Davido, Ycee and many others. His face may not be as familiar but his music as a record producer has gained him worldwide recognition in the world of afrobeat.
But it is his unusual but stunning voice that makes him stand out from the rest in this contemporary afrobeat’s world.
In 2016, Maleek Berry decided to take on a new challenge and juggle between being a record producer and recording artist. He released his first hit single 'Kontrol'.
Maleek’s style can be classified as a bridge between afrobeats and British rnb. In fact, he spent most of his younger days between the UK and Nigeria and this duality has been reflected in his music.
During a TED talk session he held in Peckham in 2016, Maleek described himself as a "British Yoruba boy" and discussed how the multicultural aspect of England has shaped his music, you can watch the full talk below:
He released his first EP, Last Daze Of Summer, last year. Some songs are a mix of Yoruba, English and Nigerian slang (pijjin English) with Asian, afrobeats and Caribbean beats. Most of his songs speak of the fragility of love, being in the friend zone and the highs & lows of relationships in general.
His recent EP First Daze Of Winter will be released on the 11th of January. In his new single 'Pon My Mind', taken off the upcoming EP shows off Maleek's upbeat and catchy music style.
'Pon My Mind' also has an underlining melancholy driven by the song's rhythms and Maleek's moving lyrics.
The vocalist will be launching his new EP with a European tour starting in London on the 1st of February 2018.
