Jay-Z Gets First UK Number One Album

RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 15th July 2013 | Aaron

Though it may come as a surprise to many, it’s only now after an illustrious career that has lasted over two decades and is still going strong that hip-hop legend Jay-Z has finally landed his first UK Number One album!

After the release of his first studio album in 1996 and a further 10 albums prior to the release of Magna Carta Holy Grail it would have been more than fair for the mass of world hip-hop fans to think Jay-Z would have fully conquered the UK. However, it was until this weekend just gone that Jigga finally gained his first ever UK Number One album. Previously, the best Mr Carter had done was collaborative album he released with good friend Kanye West which hit the UK album charts at Number Three with Watch The Throne. On his own, The Blueprint 3 was Jigga’s best peaking at number four in 2009.

Hov got the news on Saturday night and was more than happy to share the information with his adoring crowd at the Yahoo! Wireless Festival. He shared with the crowd "Number One in 59 countries and most importantly, my first in England" he jubilantly stated while on stage before he headlined the festival the next day himself!

All is well in paradise for Jay-Z but maybe not for mate Kanye West. His eyes could be green with envy as his ‘Big Brother’ Jigga has been spending a lot of time with Justin Timberlake, recently collaborating on the single “Holy Grail” from Jay-Z new platinum album. Could this be the end of the Kanye-Jay bromance that’s been brooding for years? Watch this space!
