Polyvinyl Records Co. and Wampire's 'Trains'

Indie | Thursday 11th July 2013 | Abby

Hate taking the tube? Over all of the cramming, shoving, and lack of seats? However, one train you won’t want to miss is the latest track by Wampire, ‘Trains’, which has been listed and signed with Polyvinyl Records Co., it is the track that makes the idea of trains desirable.

Polyvinyl Records Co. is the popularly acclaimed record label which was formed back in 1994 by two high-school students, Matt Lunsford and Darcie Knight. It was first what the company now calls it: a ‘self-published fanzine’, which reviewed albums and tracks, and the overall music scene in Illinois. Recognised for their work and becoming better known amongst the music industry, the boys began distributing records at local shows, mostly for those bands that were signed with small labels. Young entrepreneurs they were, and this led them to release music of their own becoming the founders of Polyvinyl Press in 1995. It was in 2001 when Matt and Darcie had relocated their highly successful business to Champaign-Urbana, increasing the company’s size and reputation further-more, now they have signed many notorious and much-loved bands and artists, such as STRFKR and Xiu Xiu.

Wampire, that bunch of unusual Portland Ohio boys that are known for their wonderful 80s-inspired synth pop-rock sounds, are now a part of the Polyvinyl Records Co. family. The company noted that:

“It makes sense, then, that Wampire came to Polyvinyl’s attention when the duo opened for STRFKR at a hometown Portland show and that UMO’s bassist Jacob Portrait produced Wampire debut full-length, Curiosity.”

One of the most intriguing of Wampire’s tracks, ‘Trains’, was only recently acknowledged and signed as a Polyvinyl Records Co. ‘Trains’ is an excellent track which perfectly depicts Wampire’s gorgeous somnolent sound through the slowly strummed guitar; cool, calm, and collected vocals that are raw and unhurried, composed to make a wonderful 80s inspired synth pop-rock track. Wampire sings about the wait for a literal and metaphorical train, that is a sensual ballad that is best described by one of the two frontmen, Rocky Tinder:

“It’s sexy, sounds huge, and by all means should be blamed for future babies.”

“I’m always waiting for your train” will be the lyrics that get stuck in your mind when you are done listening to Wampire’s latest debut album Curiosity. This track is affective, and the fact that it has now been moved into the Polyvinyl Records family, is an exciting development for Wampire and their fans alike.
