Charlie Sloth brings together Stormzy and Jadakiss on new album

RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 3rd August 2017 | Alex

BBC 1Xtra's most recognisable voice, Charlie Sloth, drops his album The Plug later this month, and it's jam-packed with talent.

Perhaps best known for his Fire In The Booth freestyles, Sloth's roots in the UK hip-hop game run deep. He's been producing for over ten years, for everyone from old school icon Rodney P to Peckham rap star Giggs (on ‘Course We Do’ from his most recent album ‘Landlord’).

Having cemented his reputation as a DJ, Sloth feels that it’s the perfect time for him to make the transition to become an artist and producer in his own right.

“I wanted to make this album as diverse as I possibly could,” says Sloth. “I come from the world of urban music, particularly grime and rap, but I wanted to make sure all the different aspects of what I represent were featured. I didn’t want people to listen to the album and think, ‘This was obviously made between 2015 and 2017.’ I wanted it to have more of a timeless feel. There’s no record on this album that sounds the same, or even that you could pigeonhole into the same sound.”

Some of the names featured include Ghetts, Giggs, Donaeo, Abra Cadabra, Ace Hood and K Koke, but fans of classic American rap are likely to be most intrigued by the pairing of Stormzy and Jadakiss on 'Look Like'.

The Plug drops on August 18, so keep your eyes peeled.
