Lorde: New Zealand's Young Star on the Rise
This New Zealand 16- year old is more than just a teen talent show singer- she is wise in her sound, youthful in her charm, and definitely going places. Ella Yelich-O'Connor, known by her stage name Lorde, is currently finishing up school in Auckland, New Zealand. Lorde released her EP The Love Club in May and has been hitting the charts in New Zealand, U.K., Australia, and the U.S. ever since. Her single “Royals” is an absolutely addicting track; the track’s pounding beat paired with Lorde’s silky deep voice almost makes you reminiscent of Black Eyed Pea’s Fergie- not to mention they look similar. The chorus harmony defines Lorde’s artistry through a juxtaposition that really works- a hop scotch girl group charisma with an edge. Most of her music videos feature Lorde center frame with a simple backdrop staring into the audience. Though a simple approach, Lorde can pull it off with her pouty lips and piercing stare- kudo’s, it takes guts not to hide behind the effects! We love Lorde and her new release of “Tennis Court." This new single will be on her new EP set to release on the 22nd so keep an eye out. Welcome Lorde!
