Daniel Caesar, of the IXXI collective, has been steadily making his way up the ranks since his start in 2013. The Canadian artist had been gaining popularity off of his EPs, Birds Of Paradise (2013), Praise Break (2014), Acoustic Break (2015) and Pilgrim’s Paradise (2015), which were getting anywhere between 73.6K views to 728K plays on Soundcloud.
However it was his single Get You, a collaboration with singer Kaliuchis and jazz group BADBADNOTGOOD, released in October of last year that really started to get him noticed by the wider public, with 20 million streams on Apple Music and just under 2 million views on Youtube.
He has since been nominated for a Juno award for his Pilgrim’s Paradise EP in the R&B/ Soul Recording Of The Year category along with The Weeknd, Partynextdoor, Dvsn and Tanika Charles.
Caesar’s soft, sincere vocals and poetic lyrics sound like that of an old soul, someone who’s lived, loved and learned a lot and put these emotions and experiences beautifully into song, so it’s surprising to find out he’s only 21.
After a good few years of grinding it’s great to see Daniel finally starting to get the recognition he deserves and it looks like he's set to blow, big time.
