Messi Makes Young Fan's Dream Come True

Other | Thursday 25th February 2016 | Sam

It is no secret that Lionel Messi is one of the greatest footballers ever, he has fans all over the world, including Afghanistan, where a 5-year-old boy was recently pictured wearing a plastic bag with 'Messi' written on it. After seeing this on social media, the Barcelona star and UNICEF Goodwill ambassador decided to start a search for the youngster in order to give him a signed Messi shirt.

The picture of Murtaza Ahmadi wearing a blue and white plastic bag with Messi on it, created by his older brother, went viral on Twitter at the end of January. Within one month, Murtaza has received an Argentina shirt signed personally by Messi saying 'With much love, Leo.' on it as well as a ball with 'Leo' written on it.

His older brother stated "We can't even imagine buying the original Messi jersey. We just can't afford it.". This is no surprise as the Ahmadi's live in the Ghazni district of Afghanistan, one of many war-torn provinces.

Around the world, there are around 43 million children living in war-torn and impoverished areas, Murtaza is just one of those, although Messi himself may not be able to help every single one of these children, he most certainly has managed to make the life of this young boy a little happier.

The power of social media never fails to amaze.
