France Makes It Illegal To Bin Food Other | Monday 8th February 2016 | Tom Environment food french A new law introduced in France now makes it illegal for supermarkets to bin unsold food, any items must now be donated to charity or to farms. In a positive move, the government approved the new law as part of a national campaign against food waste. The law targets ‘Big’ supermarket chains that are often viewed as wasteful. Food that has passed its expiry date will been given to farms where it will be used as animal feed or as compost. In 2015 The UK was the most wasteful nation in the EU when it came to food, so a similar law here would also be seen as a welcome move.
