In this new weekly update, we’ll be putting the spotlight on the best new singles freshly released in each genre. Featuring The Chemical Brothers, Beck, Public Access TV and Jorja Smith, there’s plenty of new singles to start the week off with in indie music.
Public Access TV - On Location
Following in the footsteps of The Strokes, Public Access TV is bringing the best garage rock from Downtown NYC in 2016. “On Location” is their new release and has relentless guitar work and meaningful verses.
Jorja Smith - Blue Lights
From Walsall in the West Midlands, Jorja Smith is taking the internet by storm while she allegedly still holds down a job at Starbucks. Featuring a sample of Dizzee Rascal’s “Siren”, honest and personal lyrics as well as social commentary, “Blue Lights” has the British vocalist making her mark on 2016 very quickly.
The Chemical Brothers - Wide Open (feat. Beck)
Teaming up with Beck for the track “Wide Open” on last year’s Born in the Echoes, The Chemical Brothers have now released the collaboration with the american singer-songwriter as a single. The video for “Wide Open” includes a dancer performing in a warehouse as she undergoes a weird transformation.
The press release for the video reads:
"Dom&nic’s vision was to merge the mechanical and organic, having been inspired by procedural cellular structures; their VFX Team created a full CG model of the dancer, Sonoya Mizuno, comprising of 107 individual anatomic rigs, as well as bespoke tools to allow the seamless transformation which happens during the dance."
