Figure head honcho Len Faki reworks tracks from Slam, Scuba and Philippe Petit on Hidden Objects.
Produced over the course of last year, and originally never intended for release, Hidden Objects sees Len Faki revealing a different side to his musical identity as well as drawing out unseen elements of the original material.
First reworking Slam's 'Cirklon Bells' by contrasting grainy distorted noise and stuttering drums against the light and ambient melody of the original, Faki continues to explore the idea of opposition by re-interpreting his own remix of Scuba's 'Black on Black'. This time going into the opposite white direction, he used anthemic pads over the boucy bassline to open a more musical and melodic side to the track.
Finally the newfound workflow sees Faki take on Philippe Petit’s 'Suspended'. Building upon the original’s quivering melody, he injects it with serious momentum by carefully added skittering percussion and some deeply moving bass.
Len Faki had this to say about the project: "As the name reveals, these remixes were hidden tracks, which weren’t meant to be released in the first place. They are result of spontaneus jams with the elements that I found appealing. I was inspired by the original versions and had great fun tweaking around with the parts, following the idea and visions of these tracks I had in mind....The three originals already carried a certain deepness inside them, which got me. I carved that out with my very own tools not aiming for a specific functional track."
