M.I.A. on the West and Her Refugee Background
Tuesday 15th December 2015 | Teresa
M.I.A. recently dropped the video for her new song “Borders,” a politically charged song about Western culture played to the images of refugees. M.I.A. is breaking barriers by using music as a way of bringing attention to the refugee crisis. As someone who grew up as a Sri Lankan refugee, the current crisis is something of personal importance to the 40 year-old artist. This week M.I.A. sat down with NPR to talk about her experiences as a refugee, and her take on the current situation. Listen to the interview above and then peep her video for “Borders.”
