New Jay Z album dropping July 4th
Monday 17th June 2013 | jim
If you hadnt already heard Jay Z is back (not that he ever really went away). The announcement came a few days ago via a commerical during a NBA final. In the short clip he is shown working in the studio trying to finish the album along with Rick Rubin, Pharrell, Timbaland and Swiz Beats. Also rumoured to be workign on the album are Frank Ocean, Drake and possibly Justin Timberlake and Nas.
Jay Z sats about his album that "The album is about like this duality. How do you navigate your way through this whole thing—like success, through failures, through all this—and remain yourself?"
The album will be released first to Samsung Galaxy users who download an app, not only do Samsung customers get first purchase, but the first million downloaders gain access to the album for free on July 4. The album will then be released to the general public three days later.
The main thing Jay Z seems to stress though is that we need to rewrite the rules--the internet has changed everything, its like the wild-west. In order to continue making music and progressing through the changing and more connected world we need to rewrite the rules.
From the sounds of it this album looks to encompass a whole range of music and styles of hip-hop and may be an album that splits people as it moves away from his purer hip-hop roots.
