London International Ska Festival

Reggae | Thursday 12th March 2015 | Annalisa

The London International Ska Festival returns to the capital this Easter (2-5 April) for a series of unique events at iconic London venues. The festival, now in its 27th year, celebrates all things ska, from its roots in rhythm and blues, mento and calypso, through its Jamaican originators and onto rocksteady, reggae, dub, 2 tone, skapunk and beyond. More than 50 bands will be performing at 11 venues across the city, together with dedicated film shows, DJs and a free family fun day. Festival organiser Sean Flowerdew says, "The festival goes from strength to strength, as a new generation discovers the joys of ska in all its varieties.  Our festival is the only one of its kind, attracting people from around the world."

Steel Pulse is headlining this year’s London International Ska Festival, performing their classic Handsworth Revolution album that is being reissued by Island/Universal to coincide with the show. Other highlights include Lee Scratch Perry taking care of opening night at The Jazz Cafe, with support from Dojo and DJ David Katz, the All Valve Sounclash on April 3rd, where two hand-built valve sound systems will go head to head, the Legends of Ska UK premiere and Q&A on the Saturday, and Natty Bo's Scorchio Ska closing party at Dingwalls on Sunday April 5th.
