The Horrors, Still Life- Track Review Indie | Wednesday 8th June 2011 | Osh Track Review The Horrors- Still Life Southend’s finest shoegaze band The Horrors are back in the game with the first track to be dropped from their forthcoming third record Skying. The tune itself is Still Life and it accurately reflects the stunning progression the band have made since releasing their debut LP in 2007. Long gone from the band’s sound are the gothic style organs that were such a prominent part of their debut album, and in terms of style Still Life is far more reminiscent of what the band produced on their second record Primary Colours, with the soft synth touches that defined that piece of work still very apparent. Perhaps the most obvious difference in the bands new sound are the softer, more defined vocals of frontman Faris Badwan a direct consequence one feels of his popier side project Cats Eyes featuring classically trained multiinstrumentalist Rachel Zeffira. Much is expected of the bands latest album mainly due to the outstanding success of the aforementioned Primary Colours which achieved great critical acclaim culminating in a Mercury Music Prize nomination. If Still Life is anything to go by it would appear that fans of the band are in for a real treat. George Cochran
