A Lonely Island taking over the world

Watch this video, disregard the fact that you know those guys’ faces and try tell me with a straight face that they are not massive losers.
But now we know that those losers are have come a long way: Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccome aka The Lonely Island are probably the future of pop music.
The Lonely Island were originally comedians for Saturday Night Live, who pretty much used their notoriety from the show to build a proper music career. It all started with quick music parodies on the show, then some music videos and finally, albums.
You probably know their most successful music videos, among them I Just Had Sex, Dick In A Box, Jack Sparrow, I’m On A Boat or Like A Boss.
The recipe for this success? Popular music beats for happy people and sarcastic depictions for sceptical ones. Result: everybody loves them.
Deep music lovers often raise the fact that nowadays, music is homogenous, repetitive and soulless, The Lonely Island follows this very much hated model with the exception that they do not take any of it seriously, overplaying they ‘gangsta bling bling’ stage characters and singing (or rapping, whatever you call it) about such stupid and scandalous topics as people’s addiction to the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise or the ‘Cougars’ phenomenon.
Cherry on the top, they have guests either singing on their tracks or simply starring in their videos. They collaborated with Lady GaGa, Justin Timberlake, Julian Casablancas, Michael Bolton, T-Pain and more; and had Patricia Clarkson, Susan Sarandon, Seth Rogen, Jessica Alba and Blake Lively among others, starring in their music videos.
Now fully involved in their music career, The Lonely Island has an upcoming album, The Wack Album, of which you may have heard the first single, YOLO (ft. Kendrick Lamar and Adam Levine). The album should be featuring Pharrell Williams, Solange Knowles, Billie Joe Armstrong and T-Pain.
To make the wait feel shorter – or to build the hype – they recently installed a weekly YouTube series called ‘Wack Wednesdays’, consisting in posting a new video from a song of the album every Wednesday until the album release. Yes, they sure know how to make business.
Wack Wednesday started last week with the video for Spring Break Anthem. This song is (not so) surprisingly not fully about Spring Break, I let you check it out and spot the guest stars!
