EP of the week – Hot Jams Vol 2, Hot Since 82 (Noir Music)
The producer from Leeds continues his winning streak with his new EP
Hot Since 82 is certainly a man to watch at the moment. The producer from Leeds has recently shot to fame after conquering Beatport in the space of 18 months, with the hugely popular remixes for Yousef and Shadow Child further increasing his profile. With an album on the way this year, Hot Jams Vol 2 is just a taste of the tunes that will soon be playing everywhere this summer. The EP kicks off with Mr Drive, a classy, deep track with a throbbing bassline which already sounds like a classic. Pour the Sugar has a mellow, slick vibe, with inspired sampling of soulful vocals. "Don’t Be Afraid" is arguably the big one on this EP, with haunting vocals and an intense, almost eerily deep top line. Listening to "Phat Tool," the final track on the EP, takes the listener on a journey to a more serene place with its dreamy 90s house vibes. If this EP is anything to go by, Hot Since 82 is poised for a massive year.
