Quirky indie band, Vampire Weekend, gives us a taste of their album Modern Vampires of the City, releasing on 6th May. ‘Diane Young’, ‘Unbelievers’ and ‘Ya Hey’ debuted during the band’s slot at SXSW in Austin last week. The brand new tracks were accompanied by a handful of favourites from their self-titled 2008 album and 2010’s Contra.
Today, Vampire Weekend released a fourth tune, ‘Steps’ on their website. The video for ‘Steps’ features scenes of New York City, where the band was formed, and looks a bit like an arty take on Alicia Keys and Jay Z’s ‘Empire State of Mind’- but with indie music, of course.
After listening to both ‘Diane Young’ and ‘Steps’, it’s clear why Vampire Weekend are still selling out gigs worldwide. They aren’t afraid to experiment with various electronic and pop elements, while still maintaining their core indie/Afrobeats vibe that sets them apart.
