The Lumineers: Album Review
Tuesday 8th January 2013 | Fadila
Young Colorado-based trio The Lumineers have risen to the surface of the popular Indie –folk genre, finding themselves sitting at number 11 on the Billboard charts.
There have been many comparisons to English folk band ‘Mumford and Sons’ and whilst the bands have similar styles I find the Lumineers to be much more soulful and simplistic. You can digest the lyrics of their songs whilst the instruments are being played.
The album overflows with beats seen particularly in the foot stomping single’ Hey Ho’ which was a commercial success after being featured in the advertisement for Microsoft. The tambourine and hand clapping making the track cheerful and exhilarating. It seems the song was built for a live stage.
It’s extremely refreshing to listen to an album where there is a balance between the stories being told through the lyrics and the instruments being played. Whilst many of the tracks are very gleeful they also include sorrow. The Lumineers have found a way to channel the most heartfelt moments, as shown on tracks such as ‘Stubborn Love and ‘Slow it down. The track ‘Dead Sea’ uses random words to explain the chaos which they were faced with when they first tried to make it big.
The album is an anthem of love covering every emotion from love loss and happiness, this album takes you on a ride. A balance of good lyrics and instruments this album has at least one song for everyone.
