Guestlist Recommends........Andre Crom
Wednesday 5th December 2012 | Osh
If you need an ‘out with the old’ approach to your music collection, an hour spent checking out Germany’s Andre Crom is just the ticket.
In 2008, he relocated to hub of all things cool, Berlin. Having previously worked in the music industry, it was here that his career as a full time DJ/ producer, and label owner kicked off.
His label ‘Off Recordings’ has produced some cracking tracks since inception. Releases include artists such as; Huxley, Luca Doobie, Robosonic, and Birmingham’s own Chris James. The OFF-sound has been described as Oldschool House/Techno with all other musical genres. Summed up simply – slamming!
Some of Crom’s most recognised tracks are collaboration’s with the recently deceased, Martin Dawson. Dawson sadly died in November from a brain haemorrhage, a massive loss to house music. The pair racked up some quality sounds, such as 2010 EPs, Gonna Be Alright [OFF017] & About You [OFF020.]
Another beauty of the output is that all releases are numbered and stamped; like the days of Factory Records in Manchester, no knowledge or recall of full names required; and they look cool to boot!
As a DJ, Crom also gives good service to house. His sets are wide in their scope, working classic tracks such as Blondie with old school house, through to his deeper, signature vibe. Artists from the label played Lightbox in October 2012, and the tuneage was spot, spot on.
If you still need convincing, check out his track with James Silk [OFF041.] Perfect Thing was released November 2012 and is a perfect demonstration of his unique talent for offering tracks that tick all the boxes.
