A new Slender Man game? We’re safe… for now

The latest title in the stream of horror games has been temporarily blocked for copyright reasons.
When Amnesia: The Dark Descent came out, we used to hook my housemate’s ridiculously large computer up to her equally ridiculously large TV at 2am, turn the lights off, and play it. Call us sadistic, but there was something highly enjoyable from the pants-shittingly terrifying experience of wandering through an old, creepy mansion, pursued by demonic creatures that you can’t kill, or even fight.
There have been many games in the same vein as Amnesia of late, but the latest one has been blocked by Valve due to copyright issues. Coming to computer screens from Steam Greenlight, Faceless draws its inspiration from Slender Man, which had the added fear factor of actually being unwinnable. That creepy, suited-up bastard was going to kill you no matter what you did. You can check out the Faceless trailer below – there’s not a lot of detail as yet, so it’s not as scary as the full game will undoubtedly be. To get an idea of that, I recommend watching some Slender Man walkthroughs. Only don’t do it at work. Or when you’re about to go to sleep.
Faceless developer Justin Ross has received the backing of Slender Man meme creator Eric Knudsen, but Valve wants his permission too, so as to avoid any unnecessary copyright obstacles. The game was originally called Slender: Source, so Valve wants to play it safe with regards to the rights to the name. The game is due to go public in March next year, with a closed beta period starting in December. Ross is hopeful that all issues will be resolved by then, so we can go back to sitting in darkened rooms, wondering when we’ll ever be able to sleep again.
