The Hydra: Innervisions x Permanent Vacation w/ Dixon, Ame, Tesnake, Todd Terje & Prins Thomas @ Hackney Wick, 27/10/12
So, finally after being bought a ticket in July by the missus, it was suddenly Halloween – time for the party of the month, The Hydra: Innervisions x Permanent Vacation with Dixon and Ame back to back for eight hours (hello!) in the main room, and the ever excellent Tensnake, Todd Terje and Prins Thomas in the other room.
Halloween always means one thing to me – party time. Whether on a boat or in a warehouse, I like to pull on my party pants and slightly damage my short-term memory, preferably in some sort of revolting fancy dress costume, all the while damaging my short-term memory.
Luckily for me, this superior line up included both a warehouse space and a bloody boat! All aboard ravers!
I bottled it a bit with the fancy dress but luckily I was accompanied by two rather lovely drag queens named Shaniqua Tequila and Kumquat Sally, and during the evening I bumped into Jason Lee from The Crow, a big glowing jellyfish along with a number of other rather delightful weirdo’s.
My appetite for this event had been suitably whetted by watching the Dixon and Ame BoileroomTV live from their hotel room in Amsterdam and this night was definitely not a let down.
The music in the main room had me mesmerized so much I lost track of time and my drag queens, but I managed to drag myself away to the other room were Tensnake was whipping the crowd into a mini frenzy. Music wise, it’s definitely up there in my top few parties of the year. I particularly enjoyed the variety and eclecticism Dixon and Ame brought to their epic eight hours, back to back, topped off by dropping Frank Ocean ‘Lost’ right near the end – great change of pace.
After the madness for trying to squeeze a couple thousand people out of one door, I made it, just in time, to the coach and headed to the now legendary MS Stubnitz (built in the former East Germany), moored at Greenwich and fully kitted for a rave. The Stubnitz and all who sailed in her created a really special atmosphere, with again, Dixon and Ame delivering some choice record selections, and Dolan Bergin supplying superb support, as he always does. The crowd, venue and DJs really kept the energy going from the party at Hackney Wick earlier on – well done to all involved.
The use of the MS Stubnitz was a masterstroke as the venue for the official after party with pre booked coaches delivering the deviants from Hackney Wick to Greenwich. It’s an incredible location and venue fit for the very best of parties (I can’t wait for the next event there!).
This meeting of these two labels was a real treat for us Londoners as they are both renowned for first class quality control when it comes to A&R and absolutely any of their output. Keep a look out for anything released by Innervisions or Permanent Vacation, you won’t be disappointed.
All in all – Bloody good job guys – see you at the next party. Until then, enjoy Dixon and Ame back to back from ADE:
