Nominees for the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced

Thursday 4th October 2012 | David

Rush, Deep Purple and Joan Jett are all up for the prestigious honour, with public voting now included. Looks like I can finally complain legitimately if my favourites don’t make the grade.

The artists nominated for the 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have officially been announced, and there are a few surprises thrown into the mix this time around. Rush, Deep Purple and Heart are among the early front runners for the five acts that will make the cut, but Public Enemy and N.W.A. are also included, throwing a bit of hip hop into the traditionally rock-based options. Unless Rock and Roll now encompasses wearing a giant clock around your neck, I’m not quite sure how to feel about that, but it’s certainly something different. Also in the running are “Queen of Disco” Donna Summer and German electronic mentalists Kraftwerk.

There is another aspect to the nominations this year: for the first time, the fans’ voices will be heard. You can vote online, and the public opinion will be considered alongside the usual input from other artists and music industry bigwigs on the Rock Hall voting body. Voting closes on 5th December, with the results being announced later on in the month. The full list of nominees can be seen below:

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
