Exeter-formed band taking a shine to live performances
Could they be one of the great new indie bands to grace the music scene?
Thursday 30th August saw Blissful Abyss, a band not two years old, tearing up the Good Ship in Kilburn, in their first ever London gig.
Having recently found great success supporting the Pigeon Detectives in May, this tight quartet, made up of students Tom, Sean, Christian and Ben, have already made quite a splash in their local city of Exeter, gigging consistently over the last year, which has culminated in the self-release of an eight-track EP, along with a video for the second song from the album, ‘Gyro’.
Blending delicate guitar riffs, energetic drumming, excellent bass backing and vocals that are soulful and profound, Blissful Abyss have forged themselves a catchy – and at times quite beautiful – indie sound. This balances wonderfully with some anthemic hooks, encouraging audiences to join in with lines like “And I, I won’t forget you” from crowd favourite ‘Sargasso Sea’.
Despite various members moving around this year, their fans are hopeful that Blissful Abyss will forge ahead with more live shows, and there’s always the possibility that they might return to London again to give us another taste.
Check out the video for ‘Gyro’ below.
