Her new work Sun comes out after 6 years of silence
The American singer-songwriter goes from indie to electronic music in her ninth, and maybe most personal album, Sun. This LP full of new material has nothing to do with the sound we were used to hear from her. Normally accompanied with piano and guitar, now she employs a new sonic palette full of electro textures. The only think that doesn’t change is Chan Marshal’s melodic voice and the deep lyrics that this time talk about finding a fuller self. This “rebirth” as she calls the album, is also a claim for independency, as she wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of the album by herself. For her, Sun’s message is: "don't look back, pick up, and go confidently into your own future, to personal power and fulfillment." She may got this statement in mind during the whole production, as she went through lots of obstacles to take it out, both economic (at some point she declared herself bankrupt) and sentimental, as she broke up with her boyfriend during this period. But she decided to pull ahead and finance herself the whole project. She just let participate in this project Iggy Pop, who performs the backing vocals on "Nothin' But Time" and Philippe Zdar, famous in the electro ghetto for remixing artists as Depeche Mode and Björk, in the mixing. This album is the first with new material since 2006's The Greatest, and comes after Jukebox which included just covers. Sun will be released in UK the 3d of September issued in a variety of formats, including a limited edition deluxe LP containing a 7" vinyl of bonus tracks. We could see Cat Power touring the world with a new band from 11 October to 8 November 2012.
