August looks to be a hot month for the newly reformed four piece from London.
After a break of nearly two years Bloc Party are set to release their fourth album, originally named, Four in the UK on the 20th August. Following the release of the single ‘One More Chance’ in August 2009 the band went their separate ways leading Kele to his own solo career and Lissack, the most recognisable fringe in the Indie world, to join Ash. However, like the proverbial phoenix Bloc party look to have risen from the ashes and made an album that will have listeners “in a state of Flux”.
If the debut single ‘Octopus’ is to demonstrate the overall sound of the album, a clear continuation of the previous electronic, indie rock fusion of the previous albums can be seen. The track opens with a rolling drum beat, followed by a heavily electronic effects laden chords which contrast with the cleaner rhythm guitar, to provide the listener with a pop filled melody designed to make crowds move, before the mother of all electronic solos kicks in from Lissack that will have Johnny Greenwood checking his effects pedals green with envy. One thing’s for certain if the single is anything to judge by Bloc party will look to return from where they left off and take the indie world by storm again just as they did with Silent Alarm way back in 2005.
