The first time I heard Rustie’s music was when I was lucky enough to catch him live at SWG3 in Glasgow last year. Having relocated to the city from London last September I was struck by the richness of the music scene, however, I felt there was something lacking in respect to the grime and UK funky sound that is so prolific in my home town.
That was, until I heard Ultra Thizz reverberate off the 4 warehouse walls. Alongside LuckyMe’s Hudson Mohawke and Lunice Rustie is paving the way for a new sound to rival house and techno within the Glasgow scene.
It seems I’m not the only fan of Rustie with The Guardian awarding him the 1st album award for his debut Glass Swords released back in 2011 on Warp Records. Since then he’s toured across Europe and the US and his track ‘After Light’ has even been used on the Adidas Olympics advert.
Rustie’s unique sound is a heady mix of house, uk funky and bass which literally smacks you in the face.
