Molloy Melodies Rock Ram

Indie | Thursday 7th June 2012 | Osh

The tall dark haired figure that is Kieran Molloy denotes little more than your average student, yet conceals a singer-song writer talent that is often hard to find. A melodious mix of finger picked and chorded tunes are both attractive to the ear and surprising in their combination. The fine playing of his instrument combined with a mellow voice creates a unique style that can only be compared to Elliot Smith in songs such as Sweet Adeline or St Ides Heaven.
The Canadian born talent, now a resident of Streatham Hill, currently studies at Creative Writing at university, a fitting subject for a teenager who is lyrically so creative. I first came across this friendly and sometimes distant character at an Open night event at The Ram, Hammersmith. Whilst a range of talented musicians and singers presented themselves that night in West London, I found myself leaving with the emotional and catchy number that is Moment of Weakness, and the name Kieran Molloy well and truly tattooed in my mind. It is a name that’s proving difficult to get out of my head.
This completely solo act mainly bases his lyrics around reality applicable to his own life, representing what he sees, and the way in which life is depicted through his idiolect.
As a full time student, however, he is unable to find the time to tour and play at venues that other up and coming acts so willingly grasp. Yet, it is my firm belief that with more popularity and support, this young man can go far in his field and has the potential to be the sensation music is always looking for.
