15 YEARS OF FABRIC

One of the founding fathers of the mega-club, Fabric has been setting the standard on the London dance music scene since 1999. The consistently brilliant and groundbreaking line-ups have ensured entry queues regularly snake up the street and round the surrounding block at the club's home on Charterhouse Street, opposite Smithfields' meat market.
Fabric first opened its doors on 29 October, 1999 in a renovated space which had previously been the Metropolitan Cold Stores. The club provided an incredible dance experience with its three rooms, one with vibrating floor, and two with stages for live acts. It wasn’t on its own though. At almost exactly the same time as Fabric opened, another club with similar size and ambition came into being. Home was launched to even greater fanfare in September 1999. The approaches of the two venues were markedly different though. Based at 1 Leicester Square in central London, Home opened with household names Paul Oakenfold and Danny Rampling as resident DJs whilst Fabric took a more low profile approach with Craig Richards and Terry Francis (amazingly they are still the resident DJs). The difference between the clubs was clear; Home was about glamour and good times, Fabric about the music. While Fabric is still going strong, unfortunately Home closed its doors for the last time in 2001.
It was about the music and the policy worked. Prior to financial difficulties which led to a brief period in administration in 2010, the club had been voted number 1 in “Top 100 Clubs in the World” poll conducted by DJ Magazine in 2007, 2008 and number 2 in 2009 and 2010.
This weekend sees the official Fabric 15th Birthday Weekend Party. The line-up is fittingly stellar with including sets from Loefah, Goldie B2Bdoc Scott, Terror Danjah B2B Champion, a live set from Pinch and to top it all off an incredible four hour set from Mr Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet.
