London's Garden Bridge- Exciting News!
Friday 1st November 2013 | Lauren
Joanna Lumley strikes again-is there anything that woman can’t do? Years ago she championed the idea that a garden bridge going over the Thames in London would be a lovely idea, and naturally we all agreed with her. Well it seems that we might actually be getting the bridge now. Today, a public consultation began, and new images of what the bridge could look like has just been released.
The Garden Bridge will link Temple to the Southbank, and will be designed by Thomas Heatherwick, who seems to be the father of modern London, he is the designer of the Olympic Cauldron, as well as the new Route Master busses. It will apparently be costing the low, low sum of £150,000,000- although half of it as already been found through private investors. It should be ready as early as 2018, which means our own slice of garden paradise in as little as 5 years.
Some people are already being slightly critical, because we’re British, and are worried that this is just a new thing to entice tourists over, and where oh where will the other half of the budget come from? But Lumley hasn’t failed us yet, and I would just like to have it here officially that I specifically remember when I was a child saying that a garden over the river would be nice. And I try my best not to fail my public.
Have a look at the images below, and let us know what you think! Are you excited to have the opportunity to make the leisurely from North to South London over a floating garden?
