Marvin Live is definitely one to watch in the next few years, a rising star in British hip hop that brings his own sound to the genre.
Formerly known as Be Marvel, Live grew up in Hackney, East London, and has been praised for his exciting live shows. The young artist currently has two live records and one studio LP under his belt, and has recently unveiled the video for his popular track ‘Robocop’. The video is set to be his most successful so far. Robocop is an intriguing song that fuses lots of different ideas into a singular, collected sound that effectively displays Live’s lyrical skills.
The beats are minimalist and atmospheric, but catchy enough to drive Live’s interesting sound forward. Live’s lyrics are quirky and witty, with amusing references to popular culture throughout.
Watch the video below:
The video keeps things relatively simple, with the rapper spitting his bars in an abandoned warehouse, with several dancers occasionally been shown on screen including a dancing robot in reference to the song’s title. A central theme of the video seems to be how the dancers fuse different styles of dance that aren’t immediately associated with the music style. This reveals Live as being an artist who wants to experiment and stir things up a little bit, and ambition can certainly be heard in his lyrics.
